Synopsis:
In a bleak near-future where society's economy has crumbled and America has become a totalitarian state, the most popular television program is "The Running Man" – a deadly reality show. Contestants, known as "Runners," must survive for 30 days while being relentlessly hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public. Each day they survive brings a greater cash reward.
Desperate to secure life-saving medical treatment for his gravely ill daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show's charming yet ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. However, Ben's defiance, sharp instincts, and sheer grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite – and a significant threat to the entire system. As the show's ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, forcing Ben to outwit not only the deadly Hunters but also a nation addicted to watching him fall.
About the Film:
Directed by the acclaimed Edgar Wright (known for "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World"), this new adaptation promises a more faithful rendition of Stephen King's chilling 1982 novel (published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) than the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wright co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall, promising a visceral and thought-provoking cinematic experience that delves into the dark side of reality television and societal control. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, with Glen Powell leading the charge as Ben Richards, the man running for his life and the future of his family.
